baby soil science blog beginnings

I am sitting in our home office as I start this blog and hoping that it will solve all my problems- even though I know it won't. Instead of just installing this into my website and forgetting about it I thought I would also start with a post.

This first post is for purpose- to define why I might have this blog or how I am going to use it, how I define success with the blog etc. I have never written publicly before, much less about my personal thoughts or feelings so this first post is going to be rough.

I thought that having a career was going to be easier than this if I am being frank. I thought that my feet were on the right path and it would be well trodden and smooth, but it is not. Honestly it probably IS the right trail but it requires bushwhacking; and this is my bushwhacking. Starting a small blog on my homebrew website, updating resumes, trying to make my job a better place to work, and just leaning on my friends as we navigate our early careers in science.

Maybe this will make me a better writer, a better scientist, or just better, but I am not sure how to measure that. I think success at the end of this blog just looks like satisfaction. Satisfaction with self and the broader science community at the moment. We all are facing such uphill systematic battles, and being at peace with that journey is what I want at the end of this.

If you read all these half baked pseudo philosophical words thats awesome! This blog is subject to change of course, but I think I will focus on my personal thoughts on the state of soil science, career, life, and maybe some paper reviews. Enjoy and reach out anytime if you want to say hi!
